A Fistful of Germs

A mokie did once say that my idea of perspective could be summed up as, "OMG I'm over 16 and I haven't been published yet so I must be a failure!", or some such. It's not verbatim. I suppose I shall use this as my Weird Friend Quote of the Day.

You lot better not dare tell me I've just made you feel old. I know who you are, and one day I will be cranky and thirty and moaning after not having built myself a cult following yet.

At the moment though, I am sick. I was sicker, now I'm just sick. At the worst of my sickness, I was shovelling gravel. My mother's a psychopath, but we now have half a water-wise, energy efficient, sand and pebble garden, with vegetables. I was angry, but it's not really something I'm wanting to think much about. Trying not to think about a lot of things at the moment, really. I am worried for a friend. I'm a good worrier, not much of a helper. I am living vicariously through another friend, only because she named a hamster sanctuary after me first. I am not writing, or even editing, which is what I call writing, so that's...kind of lame, actually.

I would love to sit up late and make the most of the silence, but I suspect my coughing just bothers everyone trying to sleep. There's a theory going around I've gone and sucked up too many dust particles from the shovelling, because these things have germs, and dust masks are uncomfortable. So not only am I really able to take advantage of the only time there is quiet in this place, I am myself a source of noise.

It's a funny theory, that I could be a source of noise.

The funniest mistranslation I've met all day happens to be this:

English: Golf
Malay: Gof

I know it'd be interesting if it were true, but even I don't think my Dad's into gof.

I would also like to point out that the sports category named athletics probably has more to do with the physical activity than it does the singular athelete, therefore, translating athletics as atlet (the "athlete") is likely incorrect. Interestingly, apart from the actual Malay term for athletic sports, sukan olahraga, the borrowed word atletik is also frequently used.

I've also picked up Digital Devil Saga again. I love this game. It's an RPG made for me. Of course, I'm struggling to remember where I actually left off with my last save, since I remember I was in the middle of doing these optional boss-type side quests my "10 Level Ups Per Character Per Dungeon" strategy was partly made for. Specifically, I had to remember which optional boss I was trying to kill, then where I was in trying to access it. I still have DDS2 (unplayed), Lucifer's Call (unplayed), Nocturne (unplayed), FFX (half-finished; completely suck at chocobo racing and butterfly catching thank you very much), FFX-2 (unplayed; half naked bimbettes and I've already seen all the movie options), FFXII (unplayed) and Planescape: Torment (half-finished; the game is fiendishly verbose but has nice gameplay). If I was really trying to torture myself, I would remember that I haven't finished Persona 2: EA either.

At this point, I would like to point out that I've been listening to some Girugamesh (but not the really hard "ARHHH!" songs). Am I really older than you? XD

And I didn't know you played video games. I haven't anything in awhile... I want to steal my brother-in-law's Wii and play Zelda. :(

Do too like games. I just don't have all that much luck in finding the time to play them. :)

I dimly recall trying to listen to Gilgamesh once, and promptly running away because it was "ARHHHHH! NOISENOISENOISE!" Must be why I don't have that many young, squeaky fangirls on my flist. ;)

I can outworse you on that. People still mistake me for a high schooler. It amuses me to no end when the young 'uns think I'm a child prodigy...in uni.

i wish people mistook me for a highschooler. i can't even remember the last time i was asked for ID. it didn't even happen when i was in high school.

In my case, the mistake is automatic. Virtually no stranger I meet even begins to imagine I'm past 20. This shrunken pigmy Asian thing isn't always good, y'know. ;)
