The November issue of the Katherine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre's newsletter carries promotions for my residency there beginning on November 16 as well as the workshop I'll be running during my stay.

I'm surprised they actually used the emailed response I sent to the KSP's Literary Board back in October, when one of the Board's said members asked me if my workshop was going to be a lecture on Islam. You know, because my name sounds Muslim and I'm from Malaysia. You might remember me discussing the entire surreality of this and posting the content of my email here myself. I wasn't told in any way the contents of that email would make it into the newsletter till I actually read it. So yes, I'm surprised. I'd go into indignant, and a bit appalled, because I find my explanations fine for the sake of clearing my intentions to a literary board, but altogether confrontational for a promo, except I'm tired.

Also, mokie and the markfinnCabbit think I'm too close to the workshop, and the blurb is actually quite alright. That, and Santa warned me, he really really did, that along with blue-haired old ladies who'd probably find me dear, there will always be that one guy in the back who's going to be there just to dispute everything I say.

Moral of my story: Trust the Santa, because he is ancient. And trust the mokie and the markfinnCabbit, because they are as impartial as friends who will beat you to death with frozen seafood will ever be when your own judgment's shot.

It just started playing as I was about to post this. I thought, "How appropriate!"

It is. I wondered why I was suddenly talking about my own workshop without context in that box too. I suspect the switch from 1st to 3rd was someone taking it a bit easy -- I counted a few other grammatical mistakes in the newsletter too. I now have a nasty feeling about the way this workshop is being organized and promoted in general. It worries me.

I don't want to back out, and contractually can't anyway. I'll have to see if something can be done on my part.

*hugs* Thanks. I intend to do my best!

Great to hear the card arrived. That's really fast too. I'm also glad my writing was legible. I really do hope you manage to make everything you want happen in Japan! :)
