A Goodly Jackpot

Ever since Gothic.net reopened to fiction subs, I've been absolutely blown away by the quality of stuff we've been getting. It is unbelievably beautiful how good our subs are this time. Even the ones I eventually reject usually are well-crafted pieces, not exactly lacking in anything. There are quite a number I have trouble actually rejecting too. I say this at the risk of jinxing myself. I'm doing my utmost to work through the backlog as well. I was hoping I'd get through the October pile before I went to bed, but there's an unusually large number of stories that were sent in between October 22 and 31. Whatever happened there though. I don't care what happened there. I have four stories from this magic date, October 27, I've accepted, another I'm mulling over. Now I'm too sleepy to read stories right anymore, so I had to stop for the night.

But about the ones that will end and start our year. On December 29, we'll be seeing a piece by Mark Justice called "Hole in the Sky". It's a hope piece, hope and lies. On January 5, we have a thing by Mark R. Kehl. That's also hope, hope and despair and a bang. I kind of wished it wasn't also called "New! Crystal-Clear Digital Wireless From Beyond the Grave", but that line's relevant to the story in a way that made me laugh and laugh. We almost never get good funny stories in this place. After that, it's allllll glum. I promises.

Gothic.net (monthly - really weekly)
chizine.com (quarterly)
Cemetery Dance (semi-monthly)

Those are the pro ones that are actively looking for horror (as opposed to the "maybe...if they're good" markets). If there are others, I don't know of them.
