Feeding Frenzy!

There is nothing more homely and pleasing as a spoonful of crisp, fresh noodles, glistening with egg sauce; and a sliver of perfectly pickled green chilli nestled between the strands like a tiny jewel.

That's about the point where you stuff your face silly. Now I'm sick and the picture of indigestion. I really must remember not to order teh tarik over at Cafe Sommerville with anything I eat. Their servings are too huge. Their tea is strong. Their food could out-taste the best of those Chinese family restaurants we had back home. Speaking of which, the cafe is run by this nice Uncle from Penang. I always remember to compliment his Crispy Skin Chicken. He is also an excellent source of outtakes. (Authentic Manglish, self-serving, etc.)

Uncle: When you wear your glasses-ah, you look like movie star-lah! Why you take them off?
Mum: Because if she doesn't, nanti walk into the wall.
Me: No-lah, Uncle. If I don't take them off, I cannot see the chilli in your fried kangkung (water convulvulus). If I don't pick them out-ah, nanti terbakar-lah (burnt)!

Like, on my brother's fascination with Fish & Chips.

Uncle: Today, my cook says he won't make Fish & Chips!

Like, on his Crispy Skin Chicken.

Me: Uncle, your Crispy Skin Chicken very sedap-lah (delicious-lah)!
Mum: Until the bones also we eat!
Uncle: Who eats the bones? You-ah? (points to me) Eh, you born in Year of the Cat*, right?
Me: Cheeeeeh-ken. :)

* Year of the Cat = Year of the Rabbit. I insist, it's Rabbit, and these people who keep saying it's Cat are truly on the side of wrongness! This is usually the point mokie comes in to whack me upside my head.

I love manglish, I think you should write a dialogue piece in it just for me! I could read it forever.... :o)

Unfortunately, I'm pretty bad at writing Manglish as a piece of dialogue. Manglish is very spontaneous, and only works with two or more Malaysians put together. ;)

It's not a language you can think through...

Do you have, a "writers journal", erm Mum says on all her numerous writing courses they always want you to keep a little notebook and scribble things down in it...? writerly things? Manglish quotes to tell eekers for her amusement things? :o)

Eek! How...ohmi. That fish, it looks like you, you know that? Startling resemblance! ;)

I don't have a fancy journal with the name, but I did and still do carry around a notebook. Occasionally, it gets scribbles of one liners, or poetry. But barely. Just barely. Haven't had that for a long time. I do take random notes on random pieces of paper though.

Well I think the Manglish conversation, is like alot of other combo-languages, fascinating to read... especially when written well... And as I am an Afi-reader, I think you should take your fans ideas on board ;o) I wonder how hard it would be to make one up? like erm...well I suppose thats whats done in the Clockwork Orange, so Burgess did it... hum....

Do you happen to speak Whaaaaaaaaale? :P

And how is it my fault you identify with her? I'm sure I made it clear I was utterly fond of the seagulls!

Afi-reader. Yikes. I've never had a fan before. What do I do? :)

Erm, I loved her, she was the best thing in it...I think they should do a part 2 called " Finding Dory" an existential epic about finding oneself with very little short term memory... :o)

You need a fan club :o) Thats what all famous folks have isnt it? :o)
